BBC Radio 1’s Katie Thistleton Announces Pregnancy in Heartwarming On-Air Reveal

BBC Radio 1 star Katie Thistleton delighted listeners and colleagues when she revealed her pregnancy live on air on October 30. The 35-year-old, who co-hosts the station’s popular drive-time show with Vick Hope and Jamie Laing, shared the exciting news during a quiz segment with her fellow presenters Mollie King and Matt Edmondson.

As part of the quiz, Katie took the reins, asking Mollie and Matt to check the last message they received. In a twist, both DJs found a surprise message from Katie herself, announcing her pregnancy. “Right, we’ve got one more for you guys, but this is from me actually,” she teased. “I’ve got a question for you guys and that is, what is the last message that you were sent on WhatsApp? So if you could all open your WhatsApps, please”, reported by OK! Magazine.

As they opened their messages, the atmosphere in the studio shifted as Matt and Mollie realized what Katie had shared. “Oh, it is,” Matt responded as the studio erupted in cheers. Katie then explained, “I’ve just sent Matt and Mollie a scan photo and a message saying me and Alex are having a baby. I was so scared that that would go wrong, like the WiFi wouldn’t send it!”

Her co-hosts were thrilled for her, with Mollie, who is currently pregnant with her second child, warmly congratulating Katie and asking how she was feeling. Katie responded, “Oh my god, Mollie, I’ve wanted to talk to you about this so much. There was a day when you walked past us, and I was like, ‘How are you?’ and you said, ‘I’ve been so sick,’ and I was thinking, ‘Me too! I’m so sick, but I can’t tell anyone yet.’ I’m due in March, so not that far behind you really.”

After the on-air announcement, Katie took to Instagram to share the joyful news with her fans. She posted a sweet video of herself and her partner, Alex, writing, “We’ve been married 3 gorgeous years today. It feels like a good time to announce the next chapter. Watch for a surprise,” adding some pregnancy and parenting emojis.

Friends, fans, and fellow BBC DJs quickly flooded the comments with warm messages. Natalie O’Leary wrote, “OMG GUYS!!!! Crying, this is the best best best news ever congratulations.” Clara Amfo added, “Congratulations, sweet thing!” Meanwhile, DJ Charlie Hedges chimed in, “So so happy for you both, the most beautiful news ever. All I can hear is… ‘Going home with Vick, Katie and Baby’ hehe (and lovely Jamie of course) x.”

Katie’s announcement marks an exciting new chapter for her and Alex, and with baby due in March, fans can expect to follow her journey both on-air and online in the coming months.
