A new book that ‘targets Kate and William’ was urgently pulled from shelves after an ‘error’

Omid Scobie’s latest book on the royal family, “Endgame,” faced a temporary withdrawal from bookstores in The Netherlands due to a reported translation error in the Dutch version. This error allegedly led to the naming of a royal family member who was involved in discussions about the skin color of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s child, Archie.

The identity of this individual has been a topic of much speculation since Meghan and Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, where Meghan first brought up these concerns. In their interview with Oprah, Harry explicitly stated that he would never reveal the identity of the person involved in those conversations.

Scobie, the author, has stated that he removed any such identifying information from “Endgame” for libel reasons. However, The Daily Mail reported that the Dutch version of the book contained a passage referring to letters between Meghan and King Charles that allegedly confirmed the identity of the individual.

Scobie, addressing the controversy on the Dutch talk show RTL Boulevard, denied including the royal family member’s name in any version of the book, including the Dutch one. He noted that if there were translation errors, he was confident the publishers would address them. Meanwhile, the publisher, Xander, confirmed that the book’s distribution in The Netherlands was paused temporarily to correct the translation error.

The Oprah interview sparked significant public and media attention, with Prince William later responding to a question about the incident by stating that the royal family is “very much not a racist family.” Buckingham Palace also released a statement from Queen Elizabeth II acknowledging the seriousness of the race-related issues raised.

Scobie, who has taken a special interest in Meghan and Harry’s lives, also spoke about the personal backlash he has faced, admitting to The Sunday Times that he is aware of the dislike towards him in Britain and has been affected by the intense trolling and criticism. Despite this, he clarified that he did not interview Meghan for the book, relying instead on information from mutual friends.
