According to a new royal tell-all book, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, were encouraged to adopt fashion styles reminiscent of Princess Diana. The book, ‘Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival‘ by journalist Omid Scobie, suggests that both Meghan and Kate have “regularly replicated” Diana’s iconic fashion choices, even wearing accessories once owned by the late princess. This information comes from an advance copy of the book obtained by Page Six.

Scobie notes that it’s logical for Meghan and Kate, as spouses of Diana’s sons, Prince Harry and Prince William, to inherit Diana’s accessories. However, he points out that the extent to which they emulate Diana’s style sometimes seems excessive. “During the past thirteen years, Diana cosplay has become a royal staple,” he writes.

A royal insider, who has worked closely with Harry and William, reportedly told Scobie that decisions about Meghan and Kate’s dressing were often discussed with their respective husbands. The insider mentioned that there were occasional nudges from others within the royal circle, leading to deliberate choices echoing Diana’s style at specific events or locations.

Scobie reflects on the nuances of this trend, acknowledging that while it can be a touching tribute at times, it also feels uneasy considering the royal family’s complicated history with Diana. He mentions the paradox of the institution seeking to capture some of Diana’s enduring appeal, despite its role in her past struggles.

Princess Diana’s fashion legacy continues to be a topic of fascination, with both Meghan and Kate occasionally seen wearing pieces from her collection. For instance, Meghan was spotted wearing Diana’s Cartier watch during a hike with Harry in May, and Kate wore Diana’s famous sapphire earrings back in 2019.
