BBC Breakfast Viewers Outraged After Presenter’s Controversial Christmas Remark
0Fans of BBC Breakfast were left frustrated on Saturday morning when an unexpected guest appeared on the show. Naga Munchetty and Ben Thompson were presenting as usual, but viewers were far from pleased when Channel 5 star Jeremy Vine made a surprise appearance, donning a Christmas jumper and sitting by a roaring fire. His festive segment discussing the likelihood of a white Christmas and Christmas films quickly took a controversial turn, as reported by Nottinghamshire Live.
Vine, known for his outspoken opinions, shared his thoughts on how Hollywood shapes our perceptions of Christmas. “A lot of what governs our behavior, our memories, and thoughts is Hollywood and it’s that thing that someone just synced up snow and Christmas in movies,” he said. He then proceeded to criticize one of the most beloved holiday films. “The most awful one being that, what’s that garbage?” Vine said, pausing before adding, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
Fans on social media were quick to voice their disapproval of both Vine’s surprise appearance and his comments. One viewer wrote, “Jeremy Vine! But then again… I suppose BBC sees Vine as some warm-hearted ‘uncle-figure’!!???” Another tweeted, “Just when you think #bbcbreakfast couldn’t possibly get any worse, up pops #jeremyvine.” A third fan commented, “Jeremy Vine? I’m off. #BBCBreakfast.”
One disgruntled viewer even penned, “Who writes this s**t? I’ve seen the dreadful Jeremy Vine four times now unfortunately running the whole gamut of emotions from A to B and some woman in glasses telling us how she had to bunk up with her new husband because of a bit of snow for their anniversary #BBCBreakfast.”
Earlier in the week, Naga Munchetty had already caused a stir when she shared some disappointing news about the Christmas weather. “I hate to burst someone’s bubble, but no white Christmas this year,” she announced, with Ben Thompson adding, “No snowball fights.” Their discussion was joined by lead BBC weather presenter Simon King, who pointed out that it was Naga’s favorite day of the year: the Winter Solstice. “Today is!” Naga exclaimed, excitedly confirming that it marked the shortest day of the year.
While BBC Breakfast fans are accustomed to lively discussions, Saturday’s show seemed to leave viewers particularly frustrated, with many taking to social media to vent their discontent over both the surprise guest and the controversial comments made.
