Janet Street-Porter Announces Break from Loose Women for Hip Surgery, Reflects on Health Struggles

Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter confirmed she will be taking a lengthy break from the popular ITV chat show, leaving fans disappointed. The 77-year-old broadcaster, known for her candid personality, revealed her upcoming hip replacement surgery during Wednesday’s episode.

Appearing alongside co-hosts Coleen Nolan, Christine Lampard, and Katie Piper, Janet shared her nerves about the procedure. Christine announced that it was Janet’s “last day for a little while,” as the panelist prepared for her operation. Janet admitted she was feeling anxious, saying, “I can’t think about anything else. I’m shaking and shivering.”

She explained, “On Friday, I’m heading off to have a hip replacement operation at last, and I can’t think about anything else. I keep dreaming about it. I keep thinking, ‘What if they can’t get it back together?’” Despite her worries, Janet plans to focus on rehabilitation after the surgery to return as soon as possible, told Entertainment Daily.

Fighting back tears, she reflected on delaying the operation. “They told me in March to have it done, but I delayed it,” she said. Janet recounted how her recent attempt at gardening worsened her condition, leaving her unable to move for days. “I realized I let myself get too weak, and I’ve never been like this in my life. It’s just so irritating.”

This isn’t the first health challenge for the outspoken TV personality. In 2020, Janet was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. She underwent surgery and made a full recovery. At the time, she urged Loose Women viewers to stay vigilant about skin changes, saying, “Do look at all the little blemishes on your skin, especially moles if they change size or shape.”

In October 2023, Janet shared another health scare on Loose Women, revealing she had suffered from shingles. She encouraged viewers to check if they were eligible for the shingles vaccine, especially those over 65, stressing the importance of prevention.

As Janet prepares for her surgery, she leaves Loose Women with the hope of a swift recovery, reminding viewers of the importance of taking care of their health and being proactive in seeking medical care when needed.
