Huw Edwards’ wife Vicky Flind ‘files for divorce’ after ex BBC star ‘put her through hell’

Huw Edwards’ Wife Files for Divorce After Child Abuse Image Scandal and House Goes on Sale in £4.75 Million Split”. Huw Edwards is facing more turmoil as his wife, Vicky Flind, has officially filed for divorce following his conviction for possession of child abuse images. The TV producer, who shares five children with the disgraced BBC newsreader, initiated proceedings to end their 30-year marriage after reportedly kicking him out of their family home, as reported by The Sun. The couple had been together for three decades but, according to sources, this was “the final nail in the coffin” of their relationship.

Edwards, 63, was handed a six-month suspended sentence in September after pleading guilty to possessing indecent images of children. The conviction followed his arrest in November 2023 when South Wales Police uncovered his involvement in explicit WhatsApp conversations with convicted paedophile Alex Williams, 25. Williams is said to have sent Edwards 41 child abuse images between December 2020 and August 2021, seven of which were categorized as Category A—the most severe.

The news of the divorce comes just hours after reports emerged that Edwards had put his £4.75 million London home on the market. The six-bedroom property, which Edwards and Vicky purchased in 2006 for £1.85 million, is described as a “substantial detached mid-century family house” in a desirable area of south London, via the Mirror. Edwards is believed to be living elsewhere as the couple’s separation becomes official.

An insider close to the couple revealed, “Vicky had enough of Edwards a long time ago, but this is the final nail in the coffin of their relationship. He’s put her and their family through hell, so this was inevitable. Unsurprisingly, they separated a long time ago and Edwards has been living elsewhere, but it is now official. Vicky is not talking to him and they now only communicate via lawyers.”

The couple’s relationship began in the early days of Edwards’ career when he was a BBC correspondent in Westminster. They married in 1993, and Vicky was the one who came forward last year to name Edwards in the allegations, issuing a statement that cited his “serious mental health issues.” She said, “I am doing this primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children.”

Despite the scandal, Edwards had once spoken fondly about his family life and parenting experiences. In an interview with The Guardian, he reflected, “There’s a principle that your youngest child gets a far better crack of the whip than your eldest… By the time you get to your youngest, in my case number five, you’re a brilliant parent.”

Edwards was also committed to passing down the Welsh language to his children. Speaking to Wales Online, he explained, “I was able to concentrate a lot of time on my eldest two children who have got a good level of understanding in Welsh, but the others less so. Three of my sons are linguists actually, and I’ve got a daughter who is a linguist.” He emphasized the pride his children feel for their Welsh heritage, particularly their connection to his father, a prominent figure in Welsh language culture.

With the divorce underway and the sale of their once-shared home, the fallout from Edwards’ legal troubles continues to unravel, leaving a once-stable family and career in tatters.
