Prince Harry’s attempt to get Meghan Disney’s role allegedly rubbed William the wrong way
0A royal expert has highlighted that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ambitions in Hollywood, particularly a moment involving Disney’s CEO, further strained their relationship with Prince William and the Royal Family.
In a January 2020 clip at the Lion King premiere, Harry was seen discussing Meghan’s interest in voiceover work with Disney CEO Bob Iger. This interaction reportedly caused discomfort within the Royal Family, including the late Queen and Prince William.
Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett, in their book “Royals At War,” explore this tension, noting that the Royals were uneasy about Harry publicly promoting Meghan for a voiceover job.
The conversation with Iger, where Harry highlights Meghan’s interest and skills in voiceovers, was seen as unbecoming by insiders, including the Queen, who reportedly found it embarrassing and indicative of the Sussexes’ willingness to commercialize their royal status.
This incident was not isolated in causing disapproval. Sources suggested that Prince William was also opposed to Harry’s approach, viewing it as inappropriate and against the Royal Family’s traditional conduct.
This further fueled the ongoing discord between Harry and William, particularly concerning Meghan’s role and activities.
Despite the controversy, it was later revealed that Meghan had recorded a voiceover for Disneynature’s film “Elephants” in the autumn of 2019, having been approached by filmmakers Mark and Vanessa Berlowitz in the summer of that year.
Meghan, a known Disney fan and familiar with the project, was seen as a suitable choice for the role, independent of Harry’s conversation with Iger.
