Prince Harry’s Appeal on Security Level Changes Denied

Prince Harry’s recent legal challenge to amend his security arrangements in the UK has been rejected at the appeal stage. The Duke of Sussex had sought to overturn a decision by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), which adjusted his security detail due to his modified status after stepping back from full-time royal duties.

The High Court, led by retired Judge Sir Peter Lane, initially dismissed Harry’s plea, citing that Ravec’s decision was neither irrational nor procedurally unfair, share by BBC.

Harry had argued for a level of protection similar to that afforded to other family members, a stance not supported by the court. In a follow-up to his unsuccessful High Court challenge, his application for an appeal was also denied, with the court emphasizing that the application mainly reiterated previously presented arguments.

Despite this setback, Harry has the option to directly request the Court of Appeal for permission to challenge the decision. In a separate ruling related to the same case, Sir Peter ordered Harry to cover 90% of the legal fees incurred by the Home Office, acknowledging some procedural breaches by the department but arguing they did not significantly influence the outcome of the case. These breaches, however, led to a slight reduction in the cost award against Harry.

This legal development comes amidst personal challenges for the Duke, who continues to reside in the United States with his family after formally stepping down from royal duties.
