Harry and Meghan Under Scrutiny for Caribbean Getaway on ‘Billionaires’ Playground
0Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have faced criticism for their recent Caribbean holiday, which some perceive as an opportunity to socialize with the affluent and famous. The couple was seen on Canouan, a secluded island often referred to as “the playground of billionaires.”
Following their in-person summit for the Archewell Foundation in New York City, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ventured to Canouan, a small island in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, where they were photographed holding hands outside a grocery store.
Canouan, which translates to “Island of the Turtles” in the native language, is a favored destination for celebrities and well-heeled travelers who indulge in luxury resorts, golfing, yachts, and private jets. The island boasts exclusive accommodations like the Mandarin Oriental Canouan and the Soho Beach House Canouan, both offering lavish amenities and breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea.
According to GB News, However, not everyone is impressed with the choice of vacation spot made by Prince Harry and Meghan. Royal biographer Angela Levin, who penned a book about Prince Harry in 2018, criticized the couple for engaging with the elite rather than focusing on their humanitarian efforts. Levin remarked, “They are not interested in helping people who are suffering. They are interested in networking with people who are very rich and very famous and who can help them in their future careers.”
Levin also raised questions about the Sussexes’ commitment to environmental causes, highlighting reports that they traveled to the island via private jet. She observed, “They are constantly advocating for saving the planet and urging us all to be mindful of our carbon footprint, but it appears they are not heeding their own advice.”
As of now, Prince Harry and Meghan have not addressed their Caribbean vacation or the criticisms surrounding it. It remains uncertain whether their children, Archie and Lilibet, accompanied them on the trip or stayed at their California residence.
This is not the first time the Sussexes have enjoyed a sunny getaway following a public appearance. In September, they were reported to have visited Portugal for a few days after attending the Invictus Games in Germany, where they reportedly crossed paths with Hollywood star Chris Evans and his wife Alba Baptista.
Since stepping back from their royal duties in early 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan have resided in the United States. They have secured lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify, launched their own media company and foundation, and participated in various events and interviews. However, they have also encountered controversies and legal disputes, including Prince William’s recent assertion that they exploited the name of his mother, Princess Diana, for their own gain.
