Prince Harry Honoured by TIME for Climate Work, Named One of ‘100 Most Influential’ in Climate Action

Prince Harry has received a significant accolade, this time for his commitment to environmental advocacy. According to TIME magazine’s latest Time100 Climate 2024 list, the Duke of Sussex has been recognized as one of the world’s foremost voices on climate action. This influential list highlights “100 most influential leaders driving business to real climate action,” and Prince Harry, through his sustainable travel initiative Travalyst, has earned a place among global leaders like Bill Gates.

Harry’s project, Travalyst, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable travel, has been praised for providing travelers with data on emissions and sustainability, encouraging low-impact travel choices. TIME explained Harry’s inclusion, noting his passion for conservation in Africa and his personal journey toward environmentalism. Harry revealed that a 2012 trip to the Caribbean inspired him when a young boy told him England’s environmental practices were harming coral reefs. This interaction motivated him to create Travalyst, aiming to help travelers make environmentally conscious decisions.

Interestingly, Prince William, Harry’s brother and another advocate for environmental causes, did not make TIME’s list this year. Prince William, however, recently hosted the fourth annual Earthshot Prize Awards in South Africa, where environmental innovators received £1 million each to scale their impactful solutions for climate repair.

In addition to his environmental work, Prince Harry recently made a heartfelt public statement in honor of Remembrance Day in the UK and Veterans Day in the US, reflecting on his time in the military and expressing deep respect for veterans. The Mirror reports, “True power lies in our ability to unite,” Harry shared, while honoring veterans’ service and sacrifice. This statement follows his own experience on the front lines in Afghanistan and his enduring dedication to veterans’ well-being through the Invictus Games, which he founded in 2014 to support wounded and injured service members.

As a former soldier, Harry shared his “lifelong admiration and appreciation” for veterans, describing their commitment to “liberty, freedom, and security” as a source of inspiration and a model of strong leadership. Now residing in California with his wife, Meghan, and their children, Harry considers Remembrance events an important time to reflect on his decade-long military career and service to others.

In 2020, shortly after stepping back from his royal duties in what became known as “Megxit,” Harry faced disappointment when his request to have a poppy wreath laid at the Cenotaph in the UK on Remembrance Sunday was denied. This, along with his ongoing public service, highlights Harry’s determination to honor his past service while carving a new path dedicated to environmental and social impact.
