Prince Harry Signals End to Royal Rift with King Charles and Prince William
Prince Harry may be moving towards reconciliation with King Charles and Prince William, according to royal commentator Hugo Vickers. The royal biographer believes the Duke of Sussex may have learned his lesson after the criticism he faced for his tell-all memoir, Spare.
Vickers suggested Harry now realizes the potential regret that can come from publicly airing grievances. “People in situations like his always regret it,” Vickers said, adding that the Duke “would do well to think of the future and try to build bridges rather than burn any more.”
The recent paperback release of Spare saw minimal promotion from Harry, selling only 3,400 copies in its second week. Vickers believes Harry’s silence is significant: “Maybe he’s kind of got it off his chest… maybe he has nothing really much more to say because he hasn’t had much to do with his family since.”
Harry’s interactions with the Royal Family have been sparse since stepping back from royal duties and relocating to California in 2020. While he attended King Charles’ Coronation and made brief visits to England for events like the Invictus Games, his relationship with his brother and father remains strained. “He hasn’t seen his brother, as far as we know, or spoken to him. What else is he going to say?” Vickers remarked, reported by GB News.
The Sussexes have faced backlash for their public criticism of the Royal Family, particularly through multimillion-pound deals with Spotify and Netflix. Vickers questioned the appeal of this narrative to international audiences: “I don’t think that some guy in the middle states of America appreciates a man who slags his father and family off in a book. They just don’t do that sort of thing.”
Vickers also praised King Charles for his approach, noting that the monarch has refrained from publicly addressing the fallout. “I think the King has behaved in an exemplary way. By saying nothing, he makes it much easier for Prince Harry to reconcile.”
Reconciliation, Vickers emphasized, requires compromise on both sides. “I’ve said it many times before—people can always reconcile if there is a willingness to compromise. That has to be on both sides.”
The paperback edition of Spare, published last month, includes no additional content, signaling a quieter chapter in Harry’s public narrative and perhaps a step towards mending royal relationships.
