Harry Devastated After King Charles’ Refusal to Meet During UK Visit Due to ‘Drama’
Prince Harry was reportedly devastated after King Charles refused to see him during his recent visit to London, even for a brief moment. The Duke of Sussex was in the city to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, prompting royal watchers to speculate whether he would meet his father during his stay.
A spokesperson for Prince Harry released a statement addressing the widespread speculation about a possible meeting between the two. The statement read: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full program. The duke, of course, is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”
Despite the statement’s diplomatic tone, it was widely interpreted as indicating that King Charles had chosen not to rearrange his schedule to meet with his youngest son. Royal author Tom Quinn noted that Harry found the rejection to be “painful,” even though the public statement suggested otherwise.
“He was deeply shocked at his father’s blunt refusal to see him even for a moment,” Quinn told The Mirror. “This time the rejection was particularly painful because it was so public – Harry may have issued a statement saying he completely understood why his father didn’t have time to see him, but everyone knows the real reason had nothing to do with busy schedules.”
Adding to the controversy, Richard Eden of the Daily Mail claimed that King Charles’ “full program” was not the true reason behind the lack of a meeting. According to Eden, a source close to the King revealed, “He doesn’t need the drama in his life. Harry and Meghan have brought him, and the rest of the family, nothing but worries over the past few years.”
Eden further suggested that reconciliation between Harry and Meghan Markle with the royal family is unlikely without an apology for their numerous criticisms of the monarchy. One of the most contentious issues appears to be Harry’s portrayal of his stepmother, Queen Camilla, in his memoir, “Spare.”
