Harry and Meghan’s Netflix Flop ‘Polo’ Sparks Criticism as America Grows Indifferent to Sussexes

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who faced relentless rumors about their marriage throughout 2024, have returned to the spotlight with their latest Netflix series Polo. However, the project has received disappointing reviews, leaving critics unimpressed and raising questions about the couple’s future.

According to The Cut, writer Danielle Cohen criticized the Sussexes’ latest venture, declaring: “Harry and Meghan’s projects can’t stop flopping.” She likened the series’ underwhelming performance to Markle’s earlier struggles with her jam company, stating, “It seems like this one is bound for the same fate as Markle’s beleaguered jam company.”

Cohen further speculated on the impact of their recent failures, adding, “The negative response to the couple’s recent projects has raised questions about their future plans and roles.” Maureen Callahan of the Daily Mail offered an even sharper critique, noting how America’s fascination with Harry and Meghan has faded dramatically.

“America has moved into a new phase of this relationship. We no longer even rubberneck with these two. We have become utterly uninterested. And that’s the death knell for Brand Sussex,” she wrote.

Taking aim at their earlier Netflix series and Harry’s memoir Spare, Callahan reflected, “Was it fun to hate-watch their first Netflix series, Meghan mocking her curtsy to the Queen, Harry looking on mortified, both of them bitching endlessly? Of course! Was dissecting Spare, with its humiliating revelations about Harry’s frozen…?”

However, she claimed that the entertainment value has worn off, declaring, “The opposite of love isn’t hate, but indifference and America has grown bored.” Callahan painted a vivid picture of America’s disinterest, comparing the Sussexes to an unwanted guest at a party. “We’ve heard and seen it all.

We’ve become that guest at the party cornered by the griping dullard that nobody wants to talk to, looking haplessly about for a more sparkling conversationalist. Or at least a top-up on the Champagne.”

US royal commentator Lee Cohen echoed these sentiments, stating that while Harry and Meghan once “epitomized a modern fairy-tale,” their popularity in the United States has “significantly cooled.”

The criticism surrounding Polo highlights growing disillusionment with the couple’s post-royal endeavors. Once celebrated as trailblazers, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex now face the daunting task of reclaiming their relevance in an increasingly indifferent audience.
