Mamie Laverock’s Miraculous Survival After Five-Story Fall

Hallmark actress Mamie Laverock, known for her role in When Calls The Heart, “shattered her body” after falling five floors from a hospital balcony, her mother, Nicole, confirmed. The 19-year-old had been rushed to a Vancouver hospital for a medical emergency when the tragic incident occurred.

Mamie was initially hospitalized last month, prompting her loved ones to set up a GoFundMe page to help cover medical expenses. While at the Vancouver hospital, she was escorted out of a secure unit and taken to a balcony walkway from which she fell five stories, sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Following the fall, Mamie was placed on life support and underwent multiple extensive surgeries. In a recent update on the fundraiser, Nicole shared that Mamie is surviving but is still in “tremendous pain.”

“Focusing now on Mamie’s surgery today. Her body has been shattered. She has undergone two 11-hour surgeries with two doctors working on her, a three-hour surgery, and another surgery today,” the message read. “We have nothing but gratitude for the doctors and nurses who have been exemplary in her care since May 26″, via Fox News.

Nicole expressed relief at Mamie’s comparative improvement, noting, “Mamie is ‘doing well’ compared to when she arrived. Doing well because she has survived these extensive surgeries. She is enduring tremendous pain and continues to not give up. We can only hold onto the miracles of each day and continue to thank everyone for their prayers and marvel at the miracles of her story. Our daughter loves her life and loves her family and is fighting hard every day.”

Mamie’s medical emergency weeks before the fall had already been a cause for concern, with Nicole rushing to Winnipeg to save her daughter’s life and get her to a hospital. The initial GoFundMe post described the urgency: “On Saturday, May 11th, Nicole traveled to Winnipeg to help Mamie, who was having a medical emergency. Nicole was able to get there in time to save her life. Then got her to a hospital in Winnipeg. Mamie has since been transferred to a Hospital here in Vancouver. Her recovery is unclear at this time but she is alive and is showing signs of improvement. We are trying to go every day to support her. Any contributions would help us be by her side. But this could be upwards of a month or more.”

Despite her severe injuries, the GoFundMe has raised over $36,000 CAD at the time of writing. Nicole has expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from friends, family, and fans, telling the Los Angeles Times, “This is an absolute miracle and there will be accountability. All we care about is that Mamie can make a recovery that she’s alive that she’s fighting and that she’s strong. It’s unbelievable that she’s with us.”

A spokesperson for Providence Health Care, which operates the hospital, declined to comment on patient-related matters but stated, “In cases related to patient safety, an internal critical incident review is conducted to determine exactly what happened and to make recommendations for improved patient safety. Our hearts go out to the patient, family, and all affected by this event, and offer our best wishes for a full recovery.”
