Eamonn Holmes Reveals Heartbreaking Health Struggle in Emotional Post About His Dog
0GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes has shared the emotional reason he is unable to welcome a new dog into his life. The 64-year-old, who resides in Surrey, took to Instagram to express his sadness over not being able to care for a rescue dog named Bella due to his ongoing health struggles.
In the post, Holmes wrote, “Think about giving Bella a home. If I could walk and look after myself, she would be mine, but instead, you could be me. Talk to @TheK9Angels. Absolutely lovely doggie.”
Earlier this year, Holmes and his wife, Ruth Langsford, reportedly parted ways, leading to discussions over who would take custody of their rescue dog, Maggie. Now, Holmes is advocating for Bella, a dog in need of a new home after enduring a tough life in Greece.
“This is Bella,” he explained in his post. “She’s come all the way from Greece, and it wasn’t a very happy experience for her there. But all of that could change thanks to you. She’s looking for the perfect home, somewhere she can feel loved forever and live out the rest of her days in happiness. She has the most beautiful personality. If you can offer this little one a home, please get in touch with the Canine Angels.”
Holmes has faced several health challenges in recent years, which have significantly impacted his mobility. He has openly discussed his struggles, sharing his fear that he may never walk unaided again. The TV presenter endured decades of chronic hip, leg, and back pain before finally undergoing hip replacement surgery in 2016. The pain had caused him many sleepless nights and severely limited his ability to perform basic tasks, including driving.
In 2018, Holmes was also diagnosed with severe shingles, which left him with a painful rash and facial swelling. He believes the condition was triggered by a stressful tax dispute with HMRC over his classification as a freelancer or staff member during his time at This Morning. However, his most significant health battle has been with chronic back pain, which began in early 2021. The pain has required multiple surgeries, and a recent fall down the stairs at his Surrey home further aggravated his condition.
Due to his limited mobility, Holmes now relies on walking sticks, wheelchairs, and mobility scooters to get around. Despite his health setbacks, the presenter remains hopeful that he will recover enough to care for a dog again one day.
Support poured in from fans after Holmes’ heartfelt admission. One follower commented, “I hope you will be able to walk and look after yourself soon and give one of these dogs a happy home once again. Sending you positive vibes, Eamonn.” Another added, “Oh, she is lovely. Hopefully, you will get stronger and be able to get another dog.”
For now, Holmes continues to advocate for dogs like Bella, encouraging others to offer them the loving homes they deserve.
