Eamonn Holmes Gets Emotional on GB News Discussing Animal Feelings Amid Split with Ruth Langsford

Eamonn Holmes appeared to have an emotional moment on GB News this morning (August 7) while discussing the emotions of animals. The former This Morning presenter recently split from his wife of 14 years, Ruth Langsford, and they seem to be sharing custody of their beloved dog, Maggie.

During a conversation with his co-host, Isabel Webster, about a study revealing that cats can grieve the loss of fellow pets, Eamonn seemed particularly introspective. The 64-year-old TV star looked down at his hands, appearing visibly saddened. He said, “I think it’s fascinating how we are being shown and educated about the feelings of animals. They know and can sense when things are wrong and they show and can demonstrate lots and lots of love as well.”

Isabel shared her own anecdote about her pet cat, mentioning how she “gets the cold shoulder” after returning from holidays. Eamonn, covering his wedding ring with his hands, asked, “In a huff?”

Both Eamonn and Ruth frequently post updates about their dog, Maggie, on social media. It has been reported that the former couple is having “difficult conversations” about who will keep Maggie after their split is finalized, told Manchester Evening News.

A source previously told the press, “Maggie is like a daughter to them. They dote on her. But she’s getting on and they know she needs stability. It’s a case of who can give her that. Eamonn adores her, and Maggie’s been such a support during his health woes.”

The source added, “The thought of giving her up is heartbreaking to him. But if Ruth is able to get out and about and walk her more, then it may well be that she gets Maggie in the split.”

The former This Morning stars are reportedly trying to avoid involving lawyers, similar to Ant McPartlin and Lisa Armstrong’s situation when they disputed custody of their dog, Hurley, during their divorce.

Recently, Maggie underwent a veterinary procedure to remove a growth, prompting Ruth to share updates and endearing snaps of Maggie resting at home. Shortly after, Eamonn posted an affectionate picture with Maggie, captioning it, “A lot of you wondering about Maggie. She’s had an op to remove a growth. All well. Not bad for a 14-year-old! In fact, she’s in better shape than me.”

As they navigate their separation, the love and care both Eamonn and Ruth have for Maggie highlight the deep bond they share with their cherished pet.
