Eamonn Holmes Criticizes Prince Harry’s UK Visit and Questions His Role in the Royal Family

Eamonn Holmes didn’t hold back his opinions as he discussed Prince Harry’s recent trip to the UK on GB News. The 64-year-old broadcaster took a swipe at the Duke of Sussex while commenting on Harry’s return to British soil last Thursday to attend the funeral of his uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes. Lord Fellowes, who was married to Princess Diana’s sister, Lady Jane, passed away at the age of 82.

Prince Harry, 39, was reportedly present at the service alongside his older brother, Prince William, though the estranged siblings were said to have remained discreet and distant from one another. Meanwhile, Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, stayed in Los Angeles with their two young children, Archie, five, and Lilibet, three.

During the discussion, Eamonn addressed the possibility of Harry rejoining the Royal Family, comparing the situation to the historical precedent of the Duke of Windsor. “We have been down this road historically, with the Duke of Windsor,” Eamonn remarked, alluding to the drama between the Duke and his wife, Wallis Simpson, told The Mirror.

Royal correspondent Michael Cole joined the conversation, quoting the late Queen Elizabeth II: “You are either in the Royal Family or not. You can’t be semi-detached.” Eamonn quickly added his thoughts, suggesting that Harry might not be making decisions independently. “But Michael, I would say, he can’t decide anything on his own. I am not talking about the royal family’s involvement; I am talking about his wife’s involvement in all of this. How can he make this decision and say, ‘I’m heading back, I’m going to get reacquainted with everybody again?’”

Eamonn hinted that Meghan, 43, might be the decision-maker in the relationship. Michael Cole responded by acknowledging the dynamics of marriage and the importance of mutual respect and consultation between partners. He added, “Her commitment—I don’t think she will ever want to come back here. She has made that clear with what she thinks about our country.”

Reflecting on the potential missed opportunities, Cole expressed his regret: “I feel it is the greatest pity as I feel they could and were making a valuable contribution around this country and the 54 nations of the Commonwealth. They could have done great things here, they had the backup and the support of Buckingham Palace.”

Since stepping down from royal duties in 2020, Harry has only returned to the UK a few times—for his grandparents’ funerals, the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and the King’s Coronation. Despite hopes that the rift within the family might heal, there seems to be no sign of reconciliation. Reports from The Sun suggest that Harry and William maintained their distance at the recent funeral, arriving discreetly and avoiding any interaction.
