Shocking Moment Man Picks a Fight with Giant Sea Lion After Bizarre ‘Blood’ Question

A drunk tourist was caught on video trying to square up to a sea lion at a marina, in what can only be described as a ridiculous encounter. The mullet-wearing man, clearly a few drinks in, decides to take off his sunglasses, jump into the water, and challenge the creature to a fight. As he wades in, onlookers cheer him on, with one shouting, “Go swim on his backside,” and another joking, “Don’t worry… healthcare is cheap here.”
Once in the water, the man raises his fist at the sea lion, as if it’s a fair match, before attempting to chase it down. The sea lion, understandably startled, leaps out of the water and swims off to safety, leaving the man to awkwardly retreat from the scene with his life still intact, reported the Daily Star.
Male sea lions can weigh up to 900 pounds and grow as long as seven feet, while females are smaller. Although they aren’t typically a threat to humans, experts warn that they can become aggressive if they feel threatened, which, given the man’s actions, seems likely.
The incident, believed to have occurred in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, had the onlookers in stitches, but many on social media weren’t so amused. One user wrote, “Definitely a Trump voter,” while another sarcastically added, “Was anyone else hoping he got bit, or was it just me?” Another chimed in with, “I hate humans. Particularly this one.” A fourth comment pointed out, “It’s illegal to harass animals. I hope someone finds him and fines him.”
The tourist even tried to calm his fellow travelers by asking, “They’re not attracted to blood, are they? Serious question… they don’t like blood?” Someone reassures him with, “Don’t worry, they’re vegetarian,” which, of course, was far from the truth.
While sea lions don’t usually pose a danger to humans, this wasn’t the first time one had shown its strength. In California last year, a sea lion was seen ripping out a blue shark’s throat, and in 2023, authorities were on the lookout for someone who shot a two-year-old sea lion on a beach.
It seems like this drunk tourist got lucky this time, but his stunt has certainly earned him a place in the “don’t try this at home” hall of fame.
