Emotional tributes have poured in following the tragic and unexpected death of Fiona Booth, a beloved mother-of-two from Co Kilkenny. Fiona, 50, from Huntingdon Lodge in Gowran and formerly of Mountmellick in Co Laois, passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 9, sending shockwaves through her community.
Fiona was reported missing from her home in Gowran earlier last week, prompting a missing persons appeal from An Garda Síochána on Saturday. The appeal was later called off 24 hours later when Fiona’s body was discovered. In her death notice posted on RIP.ie, Fiona was described as a “beloved wife of Robert and cherished mum of Conor and Emily.”
The notice further expressed that Fiona would be “deeply missed” by her heartbroken family, including her mother Margaret, brother Robert, and her extended family. Her family also expressed their gratitude to those who assisted during this difficult time: “Fiona’s family would like to thank in a special way the members of An Garda Síochána, the Civil Defence, Kilkenny Sub Aqua, and all others who helped and supported them during the past few days”, according to the Irish Mirror.
Fiona’s untimely passing has left the community devastated, with many of her friends and neighbors offering heartfelt tributes to the 50-year-old. Described by many as a “beautiful person inside and out,” Fiona’s kindness and warmth made a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
One mourner wrote: “Sincere condolences to all of Fiona’s family, especially Robert, Conor, and Emily. I was shocked to hear the news. I knew Fiona from when she worked in the boutique on Keiran St. She was always so welcoming, and I always left the shop with a smile after our chats.” Another added, “Fiona was a beautiful lady, so kind, helpful, and thoughtful. She touched the hearts of everyone she met.”
Fiona’s legacy of love for her family was also remembered, with one mourner recalling how she “spoke of Conor and Emily with great love and pride.” Others praised Fiona for her radiant personality and her ability to brighten anyone’s day with her smile.
Fiona will repose in Johnston’s Funeral Home in Kilkenny on Wednesday, February 12, from 5 pm to 8 pm. Her funeral mass will take place at 11 am on Thursday, February 13, at St. Colman’s Church in Clara, with interment following at the adjoining cemetery.
Her passing has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
