Coach Teams Up with Beyond Retro to Drop £700 Bags Made from Old Jeans – And Shoppers Are Divided

Bank & Vogue, the parent company behind vintage favourite Beyond Retro, has joined forces with American luxury brand Coach to launch a limited-edition collection of bags – and they’re made entirely from repurposed textiles. Yep, old jeans and leather have been given a high-end makeover, with the bags now selling for between £395 and £730.
The collab aims to bring a fresh take on circular fashion to the luxury world, blending Coach’s signature style with Beyond Retro’s second-hand roots. The result? Upcycled, eco-friendly accessories that don’t come cheap – but promise to make a statement.
One of the standout items is the ‘Cargo Tote Bag’, a roomy carry-all crafted from worn-in denim. It features Coach’s signature glove-tanned leather, cursive embroidery, and the brand’s classic turn-lock closure. It’s designed to be practical too – roomy enough to fit a 13” laptop, plus two external pockets and a detachable strap.
Also catching attention is the ‘Tabby Shoulder Bag 26’, a reimagining of Coach’s iconic Tabby bag, now with patchwork denim and quilting. Then there’s the ‘Rogue Patchwork Denim Top-Handle Bag’, which puts a rugged spin on the structured Rogue silhouette using carefully sourced denim scraps.
Steven Bethell, Co-Founder of Beyond Retro and Bank & Vogue, explained how the collab came together. “The partnership developed out of a mutual commitment to sustainability and circular fashion,” he said. “Coach sought to leverage [our] expertise to integrate sustainable practices into its luxury offerings, leading to this collaboration.”
He added that the denim used comes from post-consumer sources – basically, old jeans that are no longer fit to sell as second-hand. “They’re carefully sorted, cut into components, and then sent to Coach’s finished goods factory to seamlessly fit into their production processes.”
While some fashion fans are loving the idea of luxe bags with a green twist, others are raising eyebrows at the steep price tag. After all, these are bags made from materials that would’ve otherwise gone to waste. But for those happy to splash out, it’s a blend of sustainability and style that ticks all the boxes.
“These bags are for everyone who wants a beautiful looking bag with the added bonus of it being circular and kinder to the planet,” Bethell said. Whether it’s a bold fashion move or a pricey eco-luxury statement, there’s no denying it’s got people talking.
