Tables Have Turned”: King Charles and Prince William Now Want an Apology from Prince Harry

Apparently, things are changing in Prince Harry’s estrangement from his father, King Charles III, and brother, Prince William. Not toward a potential reunion, but, according to a commentator, it’s now the King and Prince who want an apology.

According to royal commentator and former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, the “tables have turned” ever so slightly. Harry, she told Radio Times, used to be the one calling for an apology, stating the royal family needed to apologize to his wife, Meghan Markle. Now it’s his father and brother who want one.

“Early on, it was Harry who was demanding an apology,” she said. “There was going to be no meeting of minds or meeting in reality until there was an apology for the affronts he thought had been made to his wife.”

“But now I think the tables have turned somewhat,” she continued. “Messages coming from Harry’s side are that he’s ready at least to forgive. And that he loves his family. He’s said that quite publicly—he wants to see more of them.”

“But it is Charles and William who seem to be resisting reconciliation at this point,” Bond explained. “So, I think it was first one, then the other.”

Meanwhile, an insider told the Mirror that King Charles “wants to have peace in his twilight years” and “doesn’t want to argue,” something Harry recalled his father saying after Prince Philip’s April 2021 funeral in “Spare.”

According to journalist Petronella Wyatt, who has been friends with the king’s wife, Queen Camilla, since the age of 18, it’s William who is behind Harry’s ongoing estrangement from their dad. She claimed in a Daily Telegraph column that a “former palace official” who used to work for Harry and William remarked there’s a major “public misconception” about the two.

“There is a public misconception about William and Harry,” the insider told Wyatt. “It is William who was often the difficult one. And it is William who is preventing his father from having a proper reconciliation with Harry.”

“This isn’t helpful at a point in time when the country would be buoyed up by seeing them together again, as would the king,” they added.

For William, per Bond, Harry’s not even on his radar as Kate Middleton’s cancer treatment continues.

“I think as far as William is concerned, Harry really doesn’t exist,” she told Radio Times. “William has enough pressure on his heart and his head, with his wife and her ongoing cancer treatment, and his father, his job, and his kids.”

“I don’t think he’s got any room in his soul to worry about his estranged brother…I think William has disowned Harry,” she concluded.

So, when was the last time Harry saw his father and brother? He didn’t visit with either of them during his time in London, celebrating 10 years of the Invictus Games. This means Harry has had only one visit with the king so far this year. As for William, it’s been much longer.

Harry saw King Charles in February 2024, shortly after Buckingham Palace announced the monarch had been diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer. The 75-year-old’s treatment is ongoing as he amps up public duties following 11 weeks off.

Harry flew from California to London for what was reportedly a very quick meeting—roughly 45 minutes or less—at Clarence House, the king’s longtime residence. Harry and his 41-year-old brother haven’t seen each other since 2023. The last time they were in the same room was at their father’s coronation on May 6, 2023. They were not pictured together or seen to have any interaction.

Harry and William previously saw each other at their grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022, prior to which they—and their wives—greeted the public in a rare joint appearance.
