Carol Kirkwood Shuts Down Space Travel Inquiry from BBC Breakfast Co-Star Charlie Stayt

BBC Breakfast star Carol Kirkwood had to firmly decline co-star Charlie Stayt’s cheeky inquiry about her space travel aspirations during a recent broadcast.

On Thursday’s show, Charlie, 62, and Naga Munchetty, 49, tackled the day’s hot topics, including a story about two US astronauts stuck in orbit for two months following a test mission to the International Space Station. Astronauts Barry Wilmore, 61, and Sunita Williams, 58, who left the station on June 5, were supposed to return within days.

Naga informed viewers: “Two months after blasting off on a test mission to the international space station, two astronauts are still unable to return home after problems with a Boeing Starliner spacecraft, which means that they can’t be brought back to Earth,” reports the Express. She added, “Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams now might end up spending eight months rather than the originally planned eight days on board the ISS.”

In a segment recorded earlier, BBC North America correspondent Peter Bowes reported that there’s still no verdict on when the stranded astronauts will make it back to Earth, told The Mirror.

Back in the studio, Charlie seized the moment to probe Carol about whether she’d ever fancy a jaunt to the stars. Turning the tables to weather presenter Carol, who appeared on screen queued for her segment, Charlie queried, “My question for Carol this morning is, if you had a ticket available to you now, would you go to space?”

Carol was swift to assert her disinterest, stating, “No. Easy answer.” Unfazed, Charlie probed further, “But why not?” Without skipping a beat, Carol disclosed, “I just don’t fancy it, and I like being down here on Earth, thanks, Charlie. It just doesn’t appeal to me at all, but I like looking at satellites, that’s it.”

Naga chimed in, cheekily suggesting, “I wonder if Charlie was offering you a ticket.” At this insinuation, Carol couldn’t help but laugh, retorting, “Yeah, a one-way ticket.” The light-hearted exchange added a humorous twist to the morning’s serious discussions, showcasing the camaraderie and playful banter between the BBC Breakfast team.
