Royal Taste Test Gone Wild with Camilla’s Son in a Surreal Krispy Kreme Adventure

Tom Parker Bowles, known for his refined palate and critiques of the world’s most exquisite dining establishments, recently embarked on an unexpected culinary adventure. The son of Queen Camilla, Tom decided to swap Michelin stars for doughnut stars at a Krispy Kreme drive-thru in London, resulting in a humorous and surreal experience that he described as an “out-of-body experience” shared by The Mirror.

On a quest for something different, Tom ventured into the drive-thru lane of Krispy Kreme in Enfield, only to find himself in a surprisingly deserted setting, a stark contrast to the nearby bustling McDonald’s. Yet, inside, the business was booming with doughnut devotees. Amidst this unusual backdrop, Tom’s encounter with the sugary delights of Krispy Kreme turned into a story worth telling.

In his review for the Daily Mail, Tom recounted the swift service and his encounter with a dozen of the chain’s signature glazed doughnuts, which he described as having an almost spiritual quality on that warm spring day. However, not all was sweet in the land of doughnuts; Tom issued a humorous warning against the “Pretty Little Unicorn” doughnut, a concoction so sweet it nearly sent him into another dimension, reminiscent of the infamous Enfield poltergeist.

While Tom’s palette was less impressed by the “violently sugary” offerings and likened the coffee to “hot ditch water,” he couldn’t help but sing praises for the Original Glazed doughnut. Calling it “one of the best doughnuts on earth,” Tom admitted that this classic treat was “worth the drive.”

This lighthearted review comes as an amusing interlude to Tom’s more serious work. The food critic and writer is gearing up for the release of his new book, ‘Cooking and The Crown’, a royal-themed culinary compilation set to grace bookshelves on September 26, 2024. With a career spanning over two decades, eight culinary books, and a standing as a revered restaurant critic, Tom Parker Bowles brings a unique perspective to the table, blending royal insights with gastronomic expertise.

As he teases his upcoming book on Twitter, Tom’s Krispy Kreme escapade serves as a delightful reminder of the unexpected joys and humorous moments that food can bring into our lives, even for a royal food critic.
