BBC Breakfast Viewers Stunned as Beloved Star Makes Shocking Return After Long Absence

BBC Breakfast viewers were thrilled on Monday morning as beloved weather presenter Carol Kirkwood made her long-awaited return following a brief absence. Typically seen on the show from Monday to Thursday, Carol had been notably missing since the beginning of the month, with Matt Taylor and Simon King stepping in for her.

Carol’s colleagues warmly welcomed her back, with host Jon Kay cheerfully announcing, “Carol’s back from hols,” as reported by Hello!. However, Carol’s return brought with it some less cheerful news. She took to Twitter to inform her followers about severe weather conditions, writing, “The Met Office has an AMBER ‘be prepared’ warning in force today, across parts of central and southern England, told Manchester Evening News, Disruption is possible. There has already been some flooding.”

Despite the gloomy forecast, viewers were excited to see Carol back on screen. Many took to social media to express their joy, with one fan writing, “Welcome back Carol, hope you enjoyed your holiday,” while another added, “Morning, Carol. Great to see you back.”

Matt Taylor, who had been covering Carol’s role, confirmed her holiday earlier in the month with a social media post: “Good morning all! I’ll be looking after most of your @BBCBreakfast weather forecasts for the next 3 weeks,” as The Express reported. When a fan asked if Carol was on holiday, she playfully responded, “Sure am!”

While Carol has kept the specifics of her three-week break private, it’s believed she spent some well-deserved downtime with her husband, police officer Steve Randall, whom she married last December.

Carol Kirkwood has been a fixture on BBC Breakfast for years, having joined BBC News as a weather presenter in 1998. The 62-year-old has earned widespread admiration for her warm presence and has won the TRIC award for Best TV Weather Presenter multiple times.

In addition to her successful broadcasting career, Carol is also a published author. Her fourth romance novel, Once Upon a Time in Venice, was released in July. Her debut novel, Under a Greek Moon, published in 2021, became a hit, climbing to number two on the Sunday Times bestsellers list. It was followed by two more novels in 2022 and 2023, further cementing her place as a successful novelist alongside her television career.
