BBC Breakfast’s Nina Warhurst Forced to Apologize to Jon Kay Live on Air

BBC Breakfast star Nina Warhurst was caught in a humorous but awkward moment on Tuesday’s broadcast, where she was forced to apologize to co-presenter Jon Kay live on air. The pair were previewing Jon’s recent appearance on Celebrity Mastermind, where he showcased his knowledge of 1980s sitcom The Young Ones.

The moment came after a brief clip aired of Jon answering a question from host Clive Myrie. Clive asked, “The five-letter word telly is an informal name for what household appliance?” Jon quickly and correctly responded with “television,” earning confirmation from Clive.

When they returned to the studio, Jon cheekily teased Nina: “You’d never have got that, would you?” He joked that the questions would get more difficult as the show went on, prompting Nina to respond with a candid apology. “I’ve not seen it yet, I’m sorry I’m a bad friend! How did it go?” she admitted, leaving viewers chuckling.

Jon, taking it all in stride, replied: “I’m going to make you watch it!” He reassured Nina that she hadn’t missed much, admitting that his quiz appearance went alright and that he wasn’t too bothered that she hadn’t watched it yet.

As the conversation continued, Nina complimented Jon’s bravery for taking part in the quiz, saying, “I think you’re really brave to do it! I take my hat off to you.” Jon, surprised by the praise, jokingly responded, “I thought you had all done it. I thought it was a right of passage for being on this programme.”

Despite his teasing, Nina firmly stated that she would be too nervous to participate, imagining her mind going blank if she were ever to appear on the quiz. With a mischievous grin, Jon then playfully remarked, “I’m giving Clive your number!”

Jon had joined other celebrities, including actress Beattie Edmondson, singer Suzanne Shaw, and comedian Glenn Moore, on the popular show Celebrity Mastermind. His specialist subject was the iconic 1980s sitcom The Young Ones, and Jon impressively answered nine out of ten questions correctly.

During the programme, Clive took a moment to ask about Jon’s role on BBC Breakfast. “Millions of people wake up to you, what’s it like realizing that your face is the first face they see?” he asked. Jon humorously responded, quoting the late Bill Turnbull: “The thing you’ve got to remember is lots of people are watching, which is scary, but a lot of them are in their pants!” He added, “It’s a massive responsibility, but people still turn to the telly in the morning to find out what’s happened overnight and what they need to know for the day ahead.”

Fans of BBC Breakfast got a rare, lighthearted moment between the presenters, showcasing their chemistry and humor on live TV.
