Andrea McLean Breaks Down on Loose Women After Daughter’s Heartbreaking Divorce Comment
0Loose Women star Andrea McLean recently opened up about a deeply emotional conversation she had with her daughter, Amy, following the breakdown of her second marriage. Speaking on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, hosted by Giovanna Fletcher, Andrea shared how she navigated the difficult task of explaining her divorce to her children, Finlay and Amy.
Andrea’s first child, Finlay, is from her marriage to BBC producer Nick Green. After their divorce, she married Our House presenter Steve Toms, and the couple welcomed Amy in November 2006. The pair tied the knot in August 2009 but separated in January 2012 after working on their marriage for a year. During this difficult time, Andrea made the decision to leave their marital home and move in with her parents in Chester, taking her children with her, told Daily Record.
On the podcast, Andrea recalled, “I commuted to Loose Women and never told anyone that I was now living at Mum and Dad’s. I told [the kids] that [Steve] had gone away with work. Then I slowly introduced the idea that he wasn’t going to be living with us anymore, but assured them they were loved and safe.”
Years later, Andrea had a heart-to-heart with Amy, who was a teenager by then. She described how this conversation left her fighting back tears. “Amy said to me, ‘Oh my goodness, mummy, you were like Mrs. Incredible. You stretched over the top of the two of us, and we didn’t even notice the bullets bouncing off you. You just kept us safe.’”
Andrea reflected on this poignant moment, telling Amy, “That’s what I was trying to do until you were ready to know and understand. Now you do, and I’m walking alongside you.”
Despite the challenges of divorce, Andrea emphasized the importance of maintaining her children’s relationships with their fathers. “Whatever happened between me and your dad is between us. Your relationship with him is yours, and I have no right to poison or discolor that,” she said.
In November 2017, Andrea found happiness again, marrying businessman Nick Feeney, whom she met on a blind date arranged by Loose Women makeup artist Donna May Clitheroe.
