Air Fryer Expert Reveals ‘Magic’ Recipes That Are Cheaper, Healthier, and Even Better Than Takeaways

January is a time for health-focused resolutions and saving money after festive overspending. Thankfully, with an air fryer, you can enjoy flavorful fakeaways without breaking the bank. Air fryer expert Clare Andrews has shared her top recipes, proving that homemade meals can be tastier and healthier than your favorite takeout.

“My favorite Friday fake-away to cook in the air fryer has to be noodles,” Clare told The Mirror. “They’re quick and easy to prepare, and a fantastic way to use up all the odds and ends of vegetables left in the fridge at the end of the week.” From bell peppers and broccoli to spinach and mushrooms, Clare’s noodle dishes are as versatile as they are delicious. For protein, she recommends adding prawns or chicken strips, both of which cook beautifully in the air fryer.

The magic, she says, lies in the noodles. “Tossing them with a flavorful sauce—soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and a touch of honey or hoisin—creates a sticky, caramelized coating as they crisp slightly in the air fryer. It’s a perfect balance of convenience, taste, and a little creative flair”, reported Surrey Live.

For those seeking variety, Clare also suggests air fryer chicken curry and crispy chicken pieces. “Crispy ‘fried’ chicken is just what air fryers were made for! Crunchy and golden on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and ready in just twenty minutes.”

Not every attempt has been a success, though. Clare recounted a memorable mishap involving meringues. “The air fryer’s powerful fan lifted the light meringues and baking paper, smashing them against the hot plate at the top. The result? A sticky, burnt mess!”

To enhance fakeaway results, Clare advises marinating meats for 2–4 hours to lock in flavor and lightly coating ingredients like chicken or tofu with cornstarch for extra crispiness. A light spray of oil and occasional flipping help achieve even cooking.

Clare highlighted the health benefits of fakeaways, noting, “When you cook at home, you have complete control over the ingredients. You avoid excessive sugars, salts, and hidden additives. By using fresh vegetables, lean proteins, and wholesome grains, you create nourishing meals that are not only delicious but guilt-free.”

For Clare, homemade fakeaways are a win-win: saving money, boosting health, and delivering fantastic flavors.
