5 Tips to Wear Sunscreen the Right Way

The sun’s heat might be good for the skin during winters and the rains but it can burn your skin and cause damage during the summertime when the temperature is high. Not only that, the Ultra Violet rays of the sun can cause a great amount of damage, speed up the aging process, burn your skin, or cause skin cancer, regardless of the weather outside.

So, applying good quality sunscreen to your skin is advisable. Here are some tips to wear sunscreen the right way.

1. How do you know it is the right sunscreen for you?

Whichever sunscreen you use, you must remember to try a little portion of it on your wrist, half an hour before going out in the sun. If it does not cause any irritation, itching, or dryness, then it is the right one for you. But if you get some kind of reaction from it, then you must change it. It is best to consult a dermatologist or a makeup specialist before you choose your sunscreen.

2. How much sunscreen one should apply?

The first and the foremost is the quantity that should be taken into consideration that will protect your skin from getting burnt. Always apply liberally. When you have enough sunscreen on your skin, your skin will remain undamaged and untanned for a longer period of time.

If you are also using an insect repellent, then first apply the repellent, wait for about 15 minutes, and then apply the sunscreen as sometimes, some sunscreens do not work with other gels or creams.

3. How early to apply the sunscreen before going out?

Any sunscreen will take about 20 – 30 minutes to get into your skin to protect it well. So plan early. You must apply it over the parts that are going to be exposed to the sun rays before 30 minutes of leaving the house. Avoid applying anything after that. You can wear your makeup only after the sunscreen has seeped into your skin well.

4. How often should it be applied?

Sunscreen must be reapplied after 2 hours if you are going to be in direct sun for a longer period. If you are going to be in a swimming pool for a long time, then apply a good amount of sunscreen after one hour of being in the pool. If you tend to sweat a lot, you might have to apply it again in the next half an hour or so. It is advisable to apply sunscreen after washing off the earlier coat with water.

5. When should one wear sunscreen?

The time when you are going to be in the direct heat of the sun is the best time to wear sunscreen but if you are planning to be out between noon to 4 in the afternoon, then that is the time when you must not miss out on your sunscreen. It must be applied daily, for best results.
