Kim Kardashian faces legal action from ex-employees

American reality TV star Kim Kardashian is under legal trouble after she was hit with a lawsuit by her former maintenance staff. In a suit filed on Monday in Los Angeles, a group of former gardening and maintenance workers have accused Kim Kardashian of a range of worker violations.

According to the details, the lawsuit claims that Kardashian was late with pay, withheld wages for taxes without reporting them to the government, refused to pay overtime, and would make employees work without meal breaks.

Additionally, the court papers, obtained by TMZ, allege workers didn’t receive itemized pay stubs, and one former worker claims he was fired after bringing up overtime pay, meal breaks, and the tax issue. Another, who was 16 at the time of employment, claims he was made to work significantly more than the maximum 48 hours allowed for underage summer employees.

The group is represented by Frank Kim, who is also representing another lawsuit against Kardashian’s estranged husband, Kanye West, for the alleged mistreatment of over 500 performers at his Sunday Service events.

The 10-point complaint, which The Times reviewed, alleges that “Plaintiffs … were not paid on regular periods, were not given their required meal and rest breaks, were not provided a means to record all their hours, were not paid all their hours, were not reimbursed for employment expenses, were not paid all their overtime wages, and were not paid their wages upon termination of employment.

“In addition, Plaintiff Andrew Ramirez was terminated when he inquired about his rights as an employee and Plaintiff Andrew Ramirez, Jr., was employed as a sixteen-year-old minor, but worked longer than the maximum hours allowed to be worked by minors under the Labor Code.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Kim has revealed she hopes the issue can be “amicably resolved soon”.

The spokesperson said: “These workers were hired and paid through a third-party vendor hired by Kim to provide ongoing services. Kim is not party to the agreement made between the vendor and their workers, therefore she is not responsible for how the vendor manages their business and the agreements they have made directly with their staff.

“Kim has never not paid a vendor for their services and hopes that the issue between these workers and the vendor who hired them can be amicably resolved soon.”

Kim Kardashian is no stranger to lawsuits: She’s been sued for everything from hair removal to selfies to perfume. She also hasn’t shied away from filing lawsuits herself.
