Ferne McCann Reveals Chilling Childhood Ice-Skating Horror That Left Her Scarred—But Ready for Dancing on Ice
0Ferne McCann, former TOWIE star and current Dancing on Ice contestant, recently opened up about a terrifying childhood ice-skating accident that left her with stitches and a memorable story of resilience. As the star gears up for her debut on the ice, she shared how this early experience shaped her approach to challenges.
This Sunday, McCann will join a star-studded lineup, including Charlie Brooks, Chelsee Healey, Chris Taylor, Sam Aston, Sir Steve Redgrave, and more, to showcase their ice-skating skills on the much-loved ITV show. The group has been training rigorously for months to dazzle judges Oti Mabuse, Ashley Banjo, and ice-dancing legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.
A Childhood Scar That Shaped Her Journey
Reflecting on her first encounter with ice skating, McCann revealed a traumatic yet formative moment:
“I went to an ice-skating party when I was seven, and this boy skated into me. His skate went into my leg, and I ended up in A&E getting stitches. But I love that story because, like anything in my life, I get back up—and here we are.”
Despite the painful memory, McCann maintains a positive outlook, seeing it as a testament to her resilience. Now, she’s ready to take on the ice with her professional partner, Brendyn Hatfield.
The Pressure of the Spotlight
While McCann’s previous skating experience has mostly been limited to accompanying her daughter Sunday to festive attractions like Winter Wonderland, she believes those chaotic outings might have prepared her for the challenge.
“Any parent that has taken their child skating will know how stressful it is—you’re hunched over a penguin holding your child. It’s carnage and chaos, but it’s good practice,” she joked.
As she faces the pressure of live performances, McCann admitted to feeling nervous but remains optimistic:
“The pressure of learning the routines and performing live is nerve-wracking, but I think nerves show that you care. I just hope I can nail the routines each week. I’m more excited than anything.”
Counting Down to the Big Day
Taking to Instagram, McCann shared her excitement with fans in a heartfelt post featuring her and Hatfield:
“4 more sleeps. The countdown is on! I can’t believe the moment is finally here—Dancing on Ice starts THIS Sunday! I’m so excited (and a little nervous!) to step onto the ice and show you all what I’ve been working so hard on.”
She also praised her partner and the production team for pushing her out of her comfort zone:
“This experience has truly been a journey of laughs, challenges, and so much growth. Ice skating is no joke! Let’s do this!”
Glittering Hosts Return
Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern will reprise their hosting roles, bringing glamor and fun to the live broadcasts. Mulhern, who won fans over with his energy and humor last year, joins Willoughby as they cheer on the contestants.
Willoughby teased the new series on social media with a glamorous photo alongside Mulhern, writing:
“It’s like the weather knows… things are about to get icy! Dancing on Ice returns this Sunday… The class of 2025 is waiting for you. Are you ready, @stephenmulhern?”
As the ice rink heats up with competition and drama, all eyes will be on McCann and her fellow contestants to see who can glide their way to victory. For McCann, the journey is already a testament to perseverance, proving once again that she knows how to rise—no matter how many times she falls.
