Katie Price Slams ‘Discrimination’ Over £150K Car Insurance Demand

Katie Price is fuming over what she calls unfair treatment, claiming she’s being “discriminated against” with sky-high car insurance rates following her lengthy driving ban and past legal troubles. According to The Sun, the reality star revealed her frustrations on TikTok Live this week, where she responded to fans’ questions about her return to driving.

“Yes, I’m back driving and yes I can get my cars,” the 46-year-old said, after an 18-month hiatus from the road. However, she expressed her frustration over being able to drive again but facing steep insurance fees: “Can I get insured on them? No! It’s discrimination because of who I am… people want to charge me £150,000 a year to insure a car.”

Faced with these staggering rates, Katie revealed that she’s opted to lease cars instead. “It’s so much cheaper,” she explained, adding that leased cars come with insurance, sidestepping the hefty premiums she’d be otherwise forced to pay.

Katie’s driving history is far from smooth, with legal troubles that have followed her for years. In 2021, she received a 16-week suspended jail sentence and a two-year driving ban after pleading guilty to drink-driving while disqualified and without insurance. The incident, which involved her flipping her BMW on the way to a friend’s house, was just the latest in a series of driving issues. In fact, her history of offenses prompted a district judge to label her record “one of the worst” he had ever seen.

Katie had initially hoped to regain her license last year but encountered further setbacks. According to The Sun, she believes an anonymous source has been contacting the DVLA, casting doubts on her fitness to drive. “Someone anonymously kept emailing DVLA saying I’m not fit to drive,” she explained. Despite her doctors confirming her fitness to drive, the process to restore her license has been delayed. “It’s unfair because I did my community service, paid my fine, done my online course, so I should have got it back last April the 4th and I still haven’t got it,” she added, clearly frustrated.

Meanwhile, Katie’s financial troubles continue to pile up. The Celebrity Big Brother star is grappling with a staggering £760,000 unpaid tax bill, having been declared bankrupt for the second time in March. She’s also facing eviction from her £2 million “Mucky Mansion,” where bailiffs reportedly ordered her to leave by the end of May.

According to court records, Katie has been unable to meet her repayment obligations, including a £25,000 lump sum and monthly payments of £12,500. She was also supposed to hand over six of her cars in July, including a pink Range Rover and a Nissan Qashqai, but has yet to follow through on this arrangement.

Despite earning £84,000 from TikTok for creating content over three months, reports indicate she spent the entire sum. The court recently suspended her income from TikTok following a separate hearing, which means Katie will rely on her other income sources to manage her debts. Under a previous court order, she’s required to use 40% of her OnlyFans earnings to chip away at her outstanding debts.

Ex-husband Alex Reid also weighed in, alleging that Katie is avoiding accountability by citing mental health struggles. “I’m here for answers and accountability,” he stated, adding that “for all too long, the shadow of these court appearances has been hanging over my fellow creditors and victims.”

As Katie navigates these ongoing financial and legal challenges, her latest frustrations over insurance highlight the ongoing difficulties she faces in rebuilding her life. For now, Katie remains outspoken, determined to challenge what she perceives as discriminatory treatment in her journey back to normalcy.
