Emmerdale’s Daisy Campbell Shares Emotional Reasons Behind Amelia Spencer’s Unexpected Exit After 13 Years

Emmerdale star Daisy Campbell, known for her role as Amelia Spencer, has revealed the emotional reasons behind her character’s departure after 13 years. This week, The Mirror exclusively announced the news, leaving both fans and Daisy devastated. After years of storylines that have followed Amelia from childhood into her teenage years, Daisy shared how she learned about the decision earlier this year, explaining the heartbreaking reasons the show’s bosses felt it was time for Amelia to leave.

Daisy, who has essentially grown up on the show, admitted the news was difficult to hear, though she understands the reasoning. “It wasn’t my choice to leave Emmerdale, and it was a shock at first. Being in Emmerdale is all I have ever known. I’ve spent the whole of my childhood growing up in the soap, and it felt daunting,” she said, reported by the Daily Mail. Daisy explained that Amelia’s character arc had reached a natural conclusion: “Once they explained, I totally got it. Amelia isn’t part of the Dingles, her dad has left, Samson has gone now, and she doesn’t have any family. There is nowhere to take Amelia, and I understand that.”

Despite the sadness of her exit, Daisy expressed gratitude for her years on Emmerdale, acknowledging the valuable experiences she gained from a young age. “I feel incredibly lucky to have been in the soap for 13 years and to have been handed so many opportunities at such a young age,” she shared. Her character Amelia has faced numerous challenges, from losing family members to becoming a young mother herself.

Amelia’s storyline has been particularly intense over the past year, with her father, Dan Spencer, recently jailed after accidentally killing someone. In the wake of Dan’s imprisonment, Amelia and her young daughter, Esther—born during a teen pregnancy storyline in 2022—were taken in by Chas Dingle. However, with Esther’s father, Samson Dingle, also sent to prison recently, Amelia’s character now finds herself alone on the show, a factor that influenced the decision for her departure.

Daisy joined Emmerdale in 2011, building a close bond with her fellow cast members, including Sam Hall, who played Samson Dingle and also recently left the show. Reflecting on her time, she noted how much her character has lost, from her stepmother and mother to various family members who left or passed away, shaping Amelia’s storyline through years of dramatic and emotional twists.

As Amelia’s departure approaches, fans will no doubt feel the absence of the character, who has been central to Emmerdale for over a decade. While her exit is planned to air just before Christmas, the door is being left open for a possible return, giving a glimmer of hope to those who have followed Amelia’s journey.
