Loose Women’s Kaye Adams shares emotional family update as children leave home

During a recent episode of Loose Women, host Kaye Adams, 61, opened up about her personal life as the panel discussed the emotional challenges of facing an ’empty nest.’ Kaye admitted she’s struggling to adjust now that her youngest child has left for university, leaving her and her partner, Ian, at home without their children.

Kaye shared, “Bonnie has gone off to Edinburgh University – she won’t thank me for saying that. Charly, my eldest, is now working, so she’s away as well. The second one out of the house is tough. I have to say I am finding it difficult. The place is too tidy, we’ve got too much milk in the fridge – I don’t know how we’re going to stop the milk order”, told Nottingham Post.

Expressing her emotional struggle, Kaye continued, “I’m finding it terrible, I’m finding it hard.” When discussing how her partner Ian is coping with the transition, Kaye humorously added, “He suggested that we go to cooking classes together! I actually looked at him and thought: ‘Who are you? Bless him, he’s trying really hard!'”

She also recalled their family’s ‘last dinner’ before Bonnie left for university. “We had our ‘last dinner’ on Saturday night. Charly came as well, and Bonnie was under the table on her phone the whole time, arranging to go to a club after the dinner. For a second, I was annoyed and thought, ‘You could at least try.’ But then I thought, ‘Look, I’m going to get you an Uber, you just go now.’ It was horrible!”

Later in the episode, the conversation shifted to whether priorities change with age, leading co-host Denise Welch to call out Kaye for previously pretending to be younger than she was. Denise, 66, joked, “Kaye does a podcast How To Be 60 because you didn’t know how to be 60. You denied your age for a long time, didn’t you? You lied about it!”

Kaye confessed, “Absolutely, I lied to my kids. I made a big confession.” Denise added with a laugh, “She told them she was ten years younger!” Kaye quickly clarified with humor, “Eight, eight, thank you!”

Kaye went on to explain why she had been uncomfortable with turning 60, saying, “Forty is fabulous, and 50 is still celebrated, but once you get to 60, all the greeting cards are about flatulence and losing your teeth – but you don’t feel that way.”
