Kevin Costner Confirms Princess Diana’s ‘Secret Crush’ in Private Chat with Prince William

Kevin Costner has revealed Prince William confirmed a long-standing rumor about his late mother, Princess Diana, during a private chat with him.

The 69-year-old Oscar-winning actor, known for his roles in films like Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Dances With Wolves, and The Untouchables, shared this intriguing tidbit. In the Nineties, Costner was best known for starring opposite Whitney Houston in the hit film The Bodyguard. Few fans know, however, that a sequel to The Bodyguard was planned, and Princess Diana was set to star alongside Kevin. This project was scrapped after Diana tragically died in a car accident in August 1997 at just 36 years old.

Speaking about his bond with the princess for the first time, Kevin shared how Diana—introduced to him by the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson—was “very sweet” when they met. He revealed she was particularly keen on doing a kissing scene with him in the then-upcoming movie.

Kevin shared details of their meeting during a radio interview on America’s The Howard Stern Show. He recalled Diana felt her “life was about to change” had she gone on to star in the film. “I didn’t really go into depth with it, but I thought I understood what she was saying. She was very sweet,” he said.

About a year after Diana’s passing, news leaked that she and Kevin had been planning to do Bodyguard 2 together. This revelation did not sit well with the royal family at the time. Claiming they “kind of turned on me a little bit,” Kevin said, “it actually got kind of ugly” to the point where he even reached out to the royals despite advice from Fergie not to. While the initial reaction from the royal family was tense, things seem to have smoothed over with the younger royals now, especially with Diana’s eldest son and future king, Prince William.

In a new interview with PEOPLE magazine, Kevin revealed that William requested a private meeting with him a few years back, a request too good to turn down. “I happened to be in England, and I got this message that the prince would love to talk. And I said, ‘What?’ and then I went, ‘Okay,’” Kevin recalled.

William then confirmed his late mother’s secret crush. Continuing the story, Kevin said, “We met in this room, and it was just us. He walked up and we shook hands. The first line out of his was, ‘You know, my mum kind of fancied you.’” While Kevin stopped short of revealing more details of the private conversation, he expressed his admiration for William, calling him “quite a young man” and saying he was left with “such fond memories of who he was, how I was approached, and what we talked about.”

This heartwarming revelation adds another layer to Princess Diana’s legacy, showing her human side and her connection to popular culture.
