Community Rallies at Premier Inn in Support of Breastfeeding Rights After Mother’s Distressing Experience

In a striking demonstration of solidarity and support for breastfeeding rights, a group of parents gathered at a Premier Inn location following distressing claims from Kelly Corbin, a mother who felt discriminated against while breastfeeding her child at the hotel’s restaurant in Guernsey.

Corbin recounted her ordeal through social media, stating she was advised to breastfeed “in a corner” to avoid discomforting other guests, an experience that left her deeply humiliated and contemplating ending her breastfeeding journey. This incident, she detailed, significantly impacted her mental health, particularly as she was recovering from postnatal anxiety.

The Premier Inn has since issued an apology to Ms. Corbin, emphasizing its commitment to being a family-friendly establishment where breastfeeding mothers are not just accepted but welcomed. The company expressed regret over the misunderstanding with its staff member and assured that it is taking steps to directly address and reconcile with Ms. Corbin.

As a gesture of goodwill and to underscore its stance on being supportive of nursing mothers and their families, the Premier Inn in Admiral Park, St Peter Port, offered protestors complimentary breakfast and coffee. This incident has sparked a broader conversation on the rights of breastfeeding mothers in public spaces and the importance of inclusive and supportive environments for families.
