Mike Freer, Tory MP, Reports Suspected Arson at His Office During Christmas Eve

Conservative MP Mike Freer has expressed relief that his office was empty when a fire, suspected to be arson, broke out on Christmas Eve. The incident occurred at his office located in Ballards Lane, Finchley, North London, around 7 pm.

The London Metropolitan Police are actively investigating the incident, with the suspicion that the fire was started deliberately. The fire, which originated in a shed at the MP’s office, prompted a swift response from both the police and the London Fire Brigade.

Mr. Freer praised the quick and efficient response of the emergency services, stating that they arrived on the scene within minutes. He acknowledged the damage to the rear of the building and emphasized the ongoing police investigation, including the review of CCTV footage. “We’re still unsure of the motive behind this act, as we await the apprehension of the suspects,” he commented to the PA news agency.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported due to the incident. Mr. Freer, who has been the representative for Finchley and Golders Green since 2010 and currently serves as the parliamentary under-secretary at the Ministry of Justice, underscored the fortunate timing of the incident, noting the office was unoccupied during the occurrence.
