Expert Witness Raises Concerns: Lucy Letby May Have Murdered 3 More Babies

In a shocking revelation following the trial and sentencing of nurse Lucy Letby, an expert witness has suggested that the convicted killer may have taken the lives of three more infants under her care. Dewi Evans, who provided expert testimony during Letby’s trial, has called for further investigation into these cases, raising concerns about the possibility of additional victims.

Lucy Letby, 33, was handed a whole life order last month after being convicted of the murders of seven babies and the attempted murders of six others during her time at the Countess of Chester Hospital’s neonatal unit in 2015 and 2016. The case, which captured international attention, led to Letby’s conviction and imprisonment. However, her recent bid to challenge the conviction in the Court of Appeal has added another layer of complexity to this harrowing story.

Mr. Evans, an expert witness who played a pivotal role in the trial, has now brought new information to light. He asserts that at least three more infants may have lost their lives due to Letby’s actions. Speaking to MailOnline, Evans stated, “These babies had illnesses which were life-threatening, and three of them died – but we need to look at them to see if they were placed in harm’s way as well. They were poorly, so it may be impossible to show beyond a reasonable doubt whether they were the victims of inflicted harm.”

He continued, “But there are seven cases that concern me, which we need to look at more thoroughly. I will be liaising with Cheshire Police to bring those cases to their attention. One thing we can be reasonably sure of is that Lucy Letby did not turn up to work one day and decided to inject a baby with air into their bloodstream. I think the modus operandi evolved over time, and I think that prior to air embolus tube displacement was probably something that she did.”

Letby’s arrest by police first occurred in July 2018, followed by a second arrest a year later when investigators uncovered disturbing color-coded notes that coincided with the dates of the infants’ deaths. Among these findings was a chilling message on a green post-it note discovered inside Letby’s bedroom diary, reading, “I killed them on purpose because I’m not good enough.

I will never have children or marry or know what it’s like to have a family.” During the trial, Letby claimed that this message was not evidence of her crimes but rather a reflection of her mental struggles and the belief that she had made mistakes at work, inadvertently harming the babies.

According to reports by The Telegraph on Monday, September 18, 2023, the trial of Lucy Letby at Manchester Crown Court commenced on October 4, 2022, lasting for seven grueling months. On May 2, 2023, Letby took the witness stand for the first time to vehemently deny the allegations against her. Ultimately, on August 18, 2023, Lucy Letby was found guilty of seven counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder, involving six infants. Her life sentence without the possibility of parole has placed her among the 71 individuals serving whole-life sentences in England and Wales.

As the legal process unfolds, these newly raised concerns by Dewi Evans may open a new chapter in the Lucy Letby case, shedding light on the possibility of additional victims who may have suffered at the hands of the convicted killer nurse. Authorities and experts will undoubtedly delve deeper into these cases to ascertain the truth behind these disturbing allegations.
