Woman Expresses Deep Remorse After Biting and Robbing Man Who Later Died

Kelly Lavelle, once of Rhyl, faced judgment at Mold Crown Court for robbing Paul Williams. Mere months after the theft, Williams succumbed to complications related to his diabetes and “self-neglect”. Stricken with remorse, Lavelle confesses she sees herself as the cause of his demise.

In December 2021, Williams, fresh from winning £140 at a Betfred shop in Wrexham’s heart, faced Lavelle outside Lloyds bank on Hope Street, seeking a cigarette light. Noticing his wallet, Lavelle, flanked by several men, wrestled him for it, eventually resorting to biting him to take it, reported Rhyl Journal.

Soon after, the police apprehended Lavelle at a nearby pub, having found £90 stashed in her bra. Unfortunately, a detailed account from Williams was unobtainable, as he tragically passed away in July 2022. A relative conveyed the deep emotional turmoil he suffered post-attack, fearing he might’ve contracted a serious disease from Lavelle’s bite.

Detailing Lavelle’s extensive criminal history, which includes prior charges like theft and even threats towards a pregnant woman, the prosecution noted she had been released from custody on the robbery day.

Her defense attorney, Simon Rogers, shared Lavelle’s overwhelming guilt about Williams’s death. Recorder Simon Mills, while sentencing her to three years and eight months, reminded Lavelle of her actions’ devastating impact on the final months of Williams’s life, urging her to contemplate that during her incarceration.
