The “Tripod” Team: Duchess of York and Princesses Advocate for Teenage Cancer Trust
0Sarah, Duchess of York, and her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, affectionately known among themselves as “the Tripod”, are united not just by their familial bond but also by their ardent support for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Myrna Whiteson MBE, one of the instrumental figures behind Teenage Cancer Trust, sheds light on their fervent commitment. The Duchess spearheaded the launch of the charity’s first specialized cancer unit in 1990 at the Middlesex Hospital in London. Ever since she has remained a steadfast patron and roped in her daughters to champion the cause.
Highlighting their joint efforts, the trio graced the Christmas Appeal of HELLO! Magazine in 2021, spotlighting the monumental efforts of the Teenage Cancer Trust’s medical teams.
Drawing from her experiences, Myrna comments HELLO!, “The bond between the Princesses and their mother is evident. Their unwavering commitment to the Teenage Cancer Trust since their youth underscores their earnest desire to uplift the disadvantaged.”
Both Princesses have actively visited Teenage Cancer Trust’s multiple units. During a virtual inauguration of a new blood cancer ward last year, Beatrice recounted her transformative visit to UCLH’s ward on her 18th birthday in 2006, which reshaped her perspective on service.
Myrna reverently notes, “The Duchess, alongside Beatrice and Eugenie, embodies the ethos of Teenage Cancer Trust. Witnessing their genuine interactions with young patients is a testament to their empathy. Their visits profoundly resonate with patients, echoing the trio’s genuine understanding of the charity’s essence.”
The pivotal role of charity in the lives of the royal trio is undeniable, according to Myrna. “The heartfelt encounters with young patients have indubitably left an indelible mark on the Duchess and the Princesses. Introducing her daughters to the Trust at a crucial age created profound connections with their peers grappling with cancer.”
Despite their charity endeavors, both Princesses also balance full-time professions in the realms of tech and art while embracing motherhood. Eugenie and her spouse, Jack Brooksbank, are proud parents to young August and newborn Ernest.
